The UN Principles of Responsible Investment has commented on the dichotomy between what companies say and what trade associations claim on their behalf:
While an increasing number of companies have robust climate change policies and position statements and play a constructive role in policy discussions, we are concerned that many are also members or supporters of trade associations, think tanks and other third-party organisations who lobby against policies to mitigate climate change in a way which is inconsistent with our goal of maximising long term portfolio value.
